My Great-Aunt, Great-Uncle, and My Aunts

June 28th, 2014 (Saturday)

Today I'm having dinner with some of my relatives. It was healthy traditional food and it was delicious. The stew (jjigae) was super amazing and the beef was great! My great-aunts side-dishes (banchan) are the best!

Art Exhibits and the Tongin Market

June 26th, 2014 (Thursday)

I visited Jongno to go to some art exhibits today across from the statue of King Sejong. The exhibit we went to was some guy who did ceramics. The art was pretty cool. The pieces he made were really lustrous and they looked either like towers, shields, or masks. The gallery was large too.  Near the gallery was another exhibit that had books written and illustrated by children. It was some sort of contest. The art didn't really impress me, but a few of them were good.  After I saw those, I wanted to make my own picture book. And my dad took me to this famous noodle place that he went to a long time ago! He said he used to know the one of the people there.

LG Twins VS NC Dinos

June 25th, 2014 (Wednesday)

My favorite Korean baseball team is the Doosan Bears. Their stadium is right next to our house. It is home ground of the LG Twins too. We couldn't get tickets for Doosan so we had to watch LG and the NC Dinos. The Dinos are the newest team and they are number 2. We bought fried chicken and other food to eat while we watched the game. The food was delicious and the game was really boring.  Nobody scored a run until the  5th inning. We left during the the bottom of the 7th inning. The final score was 4-0. LG had ended up winning.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

June 24th, 2014 (Tuesday)

NO SPOILERS:

Today I watched Transformers: Age of Extinction at CGV.  Just my brother and I watched it too. The theater we watched it in was underground in B3. The movie wasn't too bad, but it wasn't great. The main character isn't as cool as the one in the first three movies and there's supposed to be prehistoric dinosaur action! There's barely any! If you want to see the review its Rotten Tomatoes: Transformers-Age of Extinction Review.

The Day That Kind Of Changed My Life (Not Really)

June 23rd, 2014 (Monday

First, I would like to make a clarification. Today did not really change the course of my life, but it taught me a few things.

1). NEVER buy ANYTHING at a flea market unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure that its "safe"
2). NEVER trust people who sell stuff there
3). ALWAYS ULTRA-PSYCHO ANALYZE the people selling stuff and the product (if you can)
4). Bad events CAN turn into good events

While I was sick, my brother went to violin lessons and found out that the violin I bought was horrible! It's hard to tell, but it was! The guy that sold it said that it was because of the strings! My violin/viola teacher traded me violins! He gave me a really nice one because he said he can fix mine for free because he's a teacher. It turned out nicely for me. Buy a crappy violin and get a nice one. But now I know, never trust anyone at the flea market. After he got the violin fixed, it sounded pretty nice.

Loads and Loads of Kleenex

June 23rd, 2014 (Monday)

These past few days, I've been feeling pretty good but, today I think I had a cold! Its half-way through the summer, and I have a cold! It was raining a whole bunch too! It wasn't that bad in the morning when I went to see the doctor. She said I wouldn't need any medicine. Then I had to have some. I feeling better now, but I'm still feeling stuffy.

The Seoul Folk Flea Market

June 22nd, 2014 (Sunday)

Today I visited the Seoul Flea Market. We looked around and also went to some center right nearby and did some crafts. There were many fascinating things you wouldn't usually in regular stores! I walked past a stand that sold pretty nice instruments and I saw a nice violin that I wanted! I had to get it! After browsing most of the market, we had lunch. I bought lunch at a restaurant in the market. It was less than 10,000 won (about $10.00)! It was the first time this Korea! After lunch, my dad bought the violin for 50,000 won (a little less than $50)! I thought the violin was pretty nice, but the strings and case weren't very high-quality. I was so happy!

The Luckiest Guy Ever and Revisiting the Past

June 21st, 2014 (Saturday)

So you know how I biked down the Han River? Well, when we returned the bikes to the rental place my dad told me that we were going to visit the place where he worked over 20 years ago in a career that involved business. On the way, we found that he had misplaced his iPad! You should have seen his face! He was freaking out (no, he stayed calm the whole time) I told him to go to the bike rental place again. My dad asked the guy if they had seen an iPad, and the guy looked at us, and he gave us the iPad. After that, we visited the old building where my dad used to work. Then, for lunch I had blow fish soup (like most Korean foods, it's WAY better than it sounds). It was amazing! My dad said that he ate here with his boss and his colleagues. In Korea, blow fish soup is traditionally eaten after you have a hangover. I haven't had any of those (YET)! There wasn't any spikes or anything like that, it was just like regular fish inside soup. That evening, I went to the driving range and I had shabu-shabu (thin strips of beef boiled in water) at a restaurant close to our house. Then, it started raining really hard. It was raining like it does in monsoon season which is coming up. I was soaked by the time I got home!

Nat'l Assembly Center and The Han River (Hangang)

June 21st, 2014 (Saturday)

I had a chance to view the exterior of the Nat'l Assembly Center.  According to my dad, it is where the Korean Congress work. After that,  I walked along the Han River. We got to ride bikes, too. It was great! You could see the 63 Building (by the way, it has 63 floors).

My Toy Story and A Giant Market

June 20th, 2014 (Friday)

After I had McDonald's, I rode a taxi to Dongdaemun, a shopping district. They have just about everything! It's one of the most popular tourist attractions in Seoul. There are so many people hustling and bustling around the market. One of the things they sell is toys. There is every kind from model airplanes, LEGOS, to BB guns. When I walked into a store, I finally understood why it's probably not a great idea to take a little kid to a giant toy store. The assortment just blew my mind! Another they sell is a whole bunch of fake knockoffs!

Rhythmic Narratives and McDonald's

June 19th, 2014 (Thursday)

I also had a chance to see an exhibit about a Korean cartoonist, Heungyong Park. He is famous for the motion and rhythm that his artwork shows. For lunch, I had McDonald's! I had the typical fries and a soda but, I had something else, something that the American McDonald's doesn't have, a Bulgogi Burger! It is my favorite burger ever!

A Visit to a Local Temple

June 19th, 2014 (Thursday)

I visited a local Buddhist temple today. We had to walk over steep hills. On the The temple was called "Gil-Sang-Sa.". It was so strange because it was so tranquil compared to the rest of Seoul. You could hear the birds and the chirping of insects. The sounds you usually hear are cars and people on their phones. There are a lot of foreign embassies and Ambassador's Residences around that area too. On the way to the temple I saw a neck tie museum and some random floating umbrellas.

Tennis and Violin Lessons

June 16-17, 2014

Today I'm starting some lessons. My tennis lessons are on clay courts that are located inside Asian Games Players' Apartments. My violin lessons are in Sincheon.  I'm enjoying both of them so far. Tennis is in the 7:40-8:20 or 7:40-8:40. Violin is 11:30-12:30.

Hyundai Department Store

June 15th, 2014 (Sunday)

The Hyundai Department Store is ginormous! It has 10 floors (I think)! I'm not able to take pictures there (I think) because of all the stuff that was designed there (I think). I had lunch there and had one of my favorite Korean desserts! Lunch was at a noodle restaurant. I had cold buckwheat noodles. (it's WAY better than it sounds!)  The dessert we had known as "shaved-ice (bing-soo)." I got that with fruit on top! It was heaven! The cold ice and fruit is so refreshing on a hot summer day.

World Cup (Korea and America's Highlights)

June 13th-18th, 2014

-Lee Keunho's (#11) goal at 68' against Russia. The final score was 1-1.

-Clint Dempsey's  (#8) goal in 29 seconds against Ghana. It was the fastest goal in the World Cup this year. It was ranked fifth for fastest World Cup Goals ever.

World Cup Soccer

June 13th-18th, 2014

I cheered on No.13 America when they beat No. 37 Ghana 1-2 and rooted for No. 57 South Korea when they tied No.19 Russia 1-1. Almost every-time the World Cup is going on, I'm in Korea. Fans gather in the streets and watch games on giant TV's.They all wear red and they are called the "Red Devils". They are somtimes referred to as the "twelveth" player(s) of the team. I took a picture with the a blown up model of Brazuca, the Official world Cup Soccer Ball! The photo was taken at the Hyundai Department Store next to COEX. Other than Korea and America, I was cheering for Brazil and Argentina. I think Thiago Silva, Hulk, and Neymar are awesome and I think Messi's a beast (Christiano Ronaldo's OK, wasn't really impressed with his performance this year)!

Namsan Million Person Walking Festival and Songpa Munhwa Center

June 14th, 2014 (Saturday)

In 2012, we went to the Namsan Million Person Walking Festival. This year, we decided to do it again because you can get a good view of Namsan Tower and you can see Seoul form the mountain. It was fun and not as fast-paced as the sports I play. It wasn't very hard and a good way to relax. When we got done, we went back home and went to the Songpa Munhwa (Culture) Center to go to another festival. There were  Korean traditional activities and Grandpa played accordion with his accordion class. I made a ceramic bowl on potter's wheel, had a caricature done, and I made a Korean traditional book. The ceramic bowl looked nice and the caricature was pretty decent. The book looked perfect, although it looked like a small notebook.
