A Tour of Dongdaemun

July 3rd, 2014 (Thursday)

I went on a tour today of Dongdaemun with some other foreigners. The tour was called Seoul Storytelling. It started out in the DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza) and then it led to a museum. The DDP was huge and the architecture was strange. Some architect from Iran designed it. The museum was small but there was interesting relics. They gave us some quizzes along the way and I won some prizes. After that, they took us to Cheonggyecheon. A stream that runs through Dongdaemun. The last place took us was Dongdaemun (East Gate). The area around the gate is called Dongdaemun too. We had snacks after that. I chose odeng (pan-fried fishcake), a street food that is sold from small carts and is served with a spicy soup. Everyone separated, and went their own ways, I visted Anguk-dong o buy postcards. We went to this mall next to Sssamji-gil. There was a lot of handmade crafts and things you don't usally see in a mall. For dinner, my dad took us to a seolleongtang (Korean broth tang (soup) made from ox bones (mostly leg bones), brisket and other cuts) restaurant that is one hundred ten years old. the food there was amazing! I wanted to stick my face inside the soup and stay there for another hundred ten years!
